How we check a driver

A driver only helps if it is the right one for your exact chip and your version of Windows. Every guide follows this route before it goes up, and again when we update it.

Common questions

Do you host driver files?

No. Every download link goes to the manufacturer or to Microsoft. A driver copied onto another site can be outdated or modified, so we never offer one.

Laptop maker or chip maker?

On a laptop or a prebuilt PC, start with the PC maker's support page. Makers ship drivers tuned for their own hardware. On a desktop you built yourself, go to the chip maker: Intel, AMD, NVIDIA or Realtek.

Where do I find a hardware ID?

Open Device Manager, right-click the device, choose Properties, open the Details tab and pick Hardware Ids. The first line, for example PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168, names the chip maker and the chip.

Does Windows Update install drivers?

Yes, for most devices. On Windows 11, open Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options, Optional updates. Driver updates the maker has published to Microsoft appear there.

How does this site make money?

Some pages mention driver updater software, and a few of those links are affiliate links: if you buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The manual fix is always on the page first.
