Dell drivers by Service Tag
Download Dell drivers from Dell Support: enter your Service Tag, open Drivers and Downloads, and install what is listed for your exact PC. On home PCs, the preinstalled SupportAssist app can scan for and install the same updates. Business models such as Latitude, OptiPlex and Precision use Dell Command | Update.

Step by step
Run Windows Update first
Open Settings, Windows Update and check for updates. Then look under Advanced options, Optional updates, because Dell publishes many drivers and some BIOS updates through Microsoft.
Read your Service Tag
On a laptop the label sits on the bottom panel. On a desktop, check the top, side or back. You can also see it in SupportAssist or in the BIOS setup screen, which opens when you press F2 at the Dell logo.
Open Drivers and Downloads for your PC
Type the Service Tag on Dell Support. Dell loads the page for your exact unit, with the parts it shipped with, so you only see drivers that match.
Filter by Windows version and category
Set the operating system to the Windows you run. Install chipset first, then graphics, audio, network and the rest, and restart when a Dell installer asks.
Let SupportAssist watch for updates
Open SupportAssist and choose the option to update software. It scans the PC, notifies you when something new is available and installs Dell's version for you.
Dell’s rules for BIOS updates
Dell treats a BIOS update differently from a driver, and its own guide lists clear precautions. Charge a laptop to at least 10 percent and keep the charger plugged in for the whole update. Never run it on battery alone. Close your programs and unplug USB drives, printers and docks.
If BitLocker is on, search for BitLocker in Windows, choose Manage BitLocker and select Suspend protection before you start. Turn it back on once the PC boots normally on the new version. If you set a BIOS admin, system or drive password, Dell advises clearing it first, since some update methods cannot get past it.
Check the version before you flash
You may already be current. Press Windows and R, type msinfo32 and press Enter, then read the BIOS Version/Date line. Compare it with the newest BIOS on your Drivers and Downloads page. If they match, there is nothing to do.
When a Dell driver is missing from the list
Dell only lists drivers it has tested for your model and Windows version. If your PC shipped with Windows 10 and you moved to Windows 11, switch the filter to Windows 11 and check again. For an older model with no Windows 11 entries, Windows Update often fills the gap with a generic driver.
Questions
SupportAssist or Dell Command | Update?
Dell lists SupportAssist as the recommended tool for most users. Dell Command | Update is built for its business lines: Latitude, OptiPlex and Precision. Use whichever came on your PC.
What is the Express Service Code?
It is a longer, numbers only version of the same Service Tag. Dell shows it on your product page under the More menu next to the tag. For downloads, the 7 character Service Tag is all you need.
Why does Windows ask for a BitLocker key?
A BIOS update changes what the security chip measures at startup. If BitLocker was not suspended first, Windows asks for the recovery key. Your key is stored in your Microsoft account under Devices.
Do I need SupportAssist at all?
No. Every driver it offers is also on your PC's Drivers and Downloads page. It just saves you checking by hand.
