Get the NVIDIA GeForce driver
Get the GeForce driver from nvidia.com/drivers or the NVIDIA app. Game Ready is the default for gaming; Studio is the tested choice for creative apps. Both cover RTX 50, 40, 30, 20 and GTX 16 cards. GTX 10 series cards now get a separate GeForce Security Update Driver.

The short version
What to install and where it comes from. Every link goes to the manufacturer or Microsoft, never to a copy.
Official files only, nothing bundled
Step by step
Name your card
Open Device Manager and expand Display adapters. The entry reads like NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. If it says Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, open its Properties, Details tab and Hardware Ids, and look for VEN_10DE.
Check the PC maker on a laptop
Laptop makers tune the driver for their screen switching and power limits. Look on their support page for your exact model before you take the generic file.
Install the NVIDIA app
Download the NVIDIA app from nvidia.com. It finds your card, shows the newest Game Ready or Studio driver and installs it for you.
Or search by hand
On nvidia.com/drivers choose GeForce, your series, your card and Windows 11. Pick Game Ready or Studio from the driver type list and download.
Restart and confirm
Run the installer, choose Express, restart, then open Device Manager again. The Driver tab shows the new version and date.
Three kinds of GeForce driver
NVIDIA publishes the GeForce driver in three flavours, and which one you see depends on the card. The Game Ready Driver is the main line. It is the one the NVIDIA app offers first, and it carries support for new games. The Studio Driver shares the same base but is held back for testing against video, 3D and design software. Pascal cards, the GTX 10 series, no longer receive Game Ready drivers. NVIDIA’s own notes say a security update driver is issued for Maxwell, Volta and Pascal GPUs instead.
Version 621.01 lists the GeForce RTX 50, 40, 30 and 20 series, the GeForce 16 series and the Titan line. If your card is older than the GTX 16 series, expect the security branch.
Desktop and notebook packages differ
NVIDIA ships a desktop file and a notebook file for each release. The notebook file has its own details page and its own name. Do not mix them: use the notebook file on a laptop and the desktop file on a tower. Even the notebook file is a reference build, so a laptop maker’s page is still the first stop when the maker lists a newer or tuned version.
What the hardware ID tells you
Every NVIDIA GPU reports vendor code 10DE and a device code. In the public PCI ID Repository, 2882 is the AD107 chip used in the desktop RTX 4060, 2503 is the GA106 in the RTX 3060, 1F82 is the TU117 in the GTX 1650 and 1C82 is the GP107 in the GTX 1050 Ti. Matching the device code tells you the chip family, and the chip family tells you which driver line applies.
Questions
Game Ready or Studio: which one?
Game Ready arrives first for new games. Studio is validated against creative apps and releases less often. Your card works with either, so choose by what you do most.
My GTX 1060 or 1050 Ti has no new Game Ready driver.
NVIDIA moved Pascal cards to a GeForce Security Update Driver, which fixes security issues but adds no game optimisation. Version 582.78 from September 30, 2026 is the newest listed for the GTX 1050 Ti.
Does the same file work on Windows 10?
Yes. NVIDIA lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 for the 621.01 package. Windows 10 is not a separate download.
Do I need the NVIDIA app?
No. The installer from nvidia.com works alone. The app only adds update alerts and game settings.
