Get the Goodix fingerprint driver

Goodix fingerprint drivers for Windows Hello come from your laptop maker's support page for your exact model, or from Windows Update. Goodix sells its sensors through device makers, and its own site is aimed at developers. After installing, remove and re-add your fingerprint in Windows Hello.

Step by step

  1. Find the sensor in Device Manager

Expand Biometric devices. A Goodix entry such as Goodix Fingerprint appears here. A warning mark or a missing group means the driver did not load.

  2. Check Windows Update

Open Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options, Optional updates, and install any fingerprint or biometric driver listed.

  3. Download the maker's package

On your laptop maker's site, enter the exact model and open the Security or Fingerprint group. Install the Goodix package for your Windows version.

  4. Reinstall the device

If it still fails, right-click the sensor, choose Uninstall device, restart and let Windows detect it again.

  5. Set Windows Hello up again

Open Settings, Accounts, Sign-in options, Fingerprint recognition. Remove old fingers and add them again.

What the Goodix part is

Goodix makes fingerprint sensors, and laptops use them for Windows Hello sign-in. The public USB ID list shows Shenzhen Goodix under vendor ID 27C6, with many product IDs named Fingerprint Reader. Different laptops use different sensor models, which is why the driver you need depends on the machine.

Where the driver comes from

Goodix’s own site, when we checked, pointed designers and developers to its software resources and tools. Fingerprint packages for ordinary PCs come from the laptop maker. Windows Update sometimes carries a Goodix biometric driver too, so check Optional updates before searching the maker.

Typical failures

The sensor can vanish after a major Windows update, after a BIOS update, or after you disable the device while troubleshooting. A device listed with a warning is a driver failure. A device missing altogether might be switched off in firmware, so look in the BIOS setup if you can.

After you reinstall

A new driver does not always keep your saved fingers. Remove the old fingerprints in Windows Hello and add them again. Keep a PIN set up as a backup sign-in while you do this.

Questions

Does Goodix publish drivers for consumers?

Its home page offers resources aimed at designers and developers. Consumer fingerprint drivers reach PCs through laptop makers and Windows Update.

Why did the fingerprint option disappear?

Usually the driver unloaded or a Windows update replaced it. Reinstall the maker's version, then re-enroll your fingers.

Can I use a driver from another laptop?

It is not safe. Fingerprint packages are matched to the laptop, and a wrong file can leave Windows Hello without a sensor.

Disabling the driver switched off Windows Hello.

Without the fingerprint device, the fingerprint sign-in option is unavailable. A PIN still works, so enable the device again and re-add the finger.
