Get the Synaptics touchpad driver
Get the Synaptics touchpad driver from your laptop maker's support page for your exact model, or from Windows Update. Synaptics customizes its drivers for each notebook maker, and its own downloads page for Windows is for DisplayLink, not touchpads, so no general download exists there.
Checked October 30, 2026 against the manufacturer's own pages.

The short version
What to install and where it comes from. Every link goes to the manufacturer or Microsoft, never to a copy.
Official files only, nothing bundled
Step by step
Confirm it is a Synaptics pad
In Device Manager, look under Mice and other pointing devices for Synaptics, or open the device's Hardware Ids. A line with 06CB points to Synaptics.
Check Windows Update
Open Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options, Optional updates, and install any touchpad or Synaptics driver listed.
Open your laptop maker's page
Enter the exact model or serial number on the support site of Lenovo, HP, Dell or your maker. Look in the Mouse, Touchpad or Input group.
Install and restart
Run the installer, restart, then check Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Touchpad for gestures.
Roll back if it got worse
In Device Manager, open the touchpad's Properties, Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver, if the button is enabled.
Why the maker’s copy matters
Synaptics has said its device drivers are customized to meet the requirements of notebook makers and come pre-installed on laptops. That is the reason a generic file from a chip maker often fails on a laptop. The same chip can sit in a Lenovo, an HP and a Dell, each with its own settings and Fn key behavior. Use the file from the maker of your laptop.
What the TouchPad Family page offers
Synaptics’ site describes the TouchPad family as a product line. The page is a product overview, not a driver library, so the sensible download path is Windows Update or the laptop’s support page.
IDs you may see
The public ID list shows Synaptics under 06CB with names such as TouchPad and Composite TouchPad and TrackPoint. Many internal touchpads connect over I2C and show an ACPI ID instead, so do not worry if USB\VID_06CB is absent. The Hardware Ids tab will show whichever form your pad uses.
Gesture settings after install
After a driver install, Windows 11 lists gesture and scroll options under Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Touchpad. Some older Synaptics pads also add a settings panel in the Control Panel under Mouse.
Questions
Where is the Synaptics download page?
The Windows driver listing on synaptics.com is for DisplayLink graphics. For a touchpad, use the laptop maker, since Synaptics tailors its drivers to each notebook maker.
Is the driver at all different from the Microsoft one?
Windows includes a basic pointing driver, but extra gestures, edge zones and settings depend on the maker's package for your pad.
Does Synaptics also make fingerprint sensors?
The public ID list shows Synaptics fingerprint readers under the same 06CB ID. They use separate drivers from the touchpad.
