Step by step
Confirm the card
Device Manager, Display adapters. It should read AMD Radeon RX 6600. A hardware ID with DEV_73FF is Navi 23, which also covers the RX 6600 XT and the laptop 6600M.
Desktop: open AMD's RX 6600 page
Go to the RX 6600 page on amd.com, choose Windows 11 64-bit and download the top Adrenalin entry.
Laptop with a 6600M: maker first
AMD describes its laptop driver as a reference build with limited support for maker features. Your PC maker's driver is the safer first choice.
Run the installer
Run the file as an administrator. Expect a brief black screen while the display driver swaps.
Check Smart Access Memory on Windows 10
AMD lists a known issue where Smart Access Memory may become disabled after install on Windows 10. Check the setting in Adrenalin.
The chip behind the RX 6600
The RX 6600 uses the Navi 23 chip, part of AMD’s RDNA 2 generation. The public PCI ID Repository gives it device code 73FF, and the same code is listed for the RX 6600 XT and the laptop RX 6600M. So Windows reports the same ID for three different products, and the name in Device Manager, not the code, tells them apart. A related code, 73EF, covers the RX 6650 XT and the 6700S and 6800S laptop parts.
What the current driver adds
AMD’s notes for Adrenalin 26.10.1 say FSR Upscaling 4.1 now supports Radeon RX 6000 series cards. They also fix stuttering in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on RX 6000 and newer. That is why the RX 6600 page on amd.com places 26.10.1 first. The version after it, 26.10.2, is labelled optional and carries fixes for the overlay crash described in its notes.
Known issues on this card
AMD does not list an RX 6600 specific fault for 26.10.1. Its known issues name other products, for example the War Thunder driver timeout on RX 5000 series cards. Two general items matter here: the overlay crash fixed in 26.10.2, and Smart Access Memory turning off after installation on Windows 10.
A tip for the overlay crash
If a game closes when you open Xbox Game Bar, the Performance Metrics Overlay in AMD’s software may be the cause. AMD suggests turning that overlay off before you open or close other overlays. Installing 26.10.2 is the other route, since its notes list the fix.
Questions
Which is better, 26.10.1 or 26.10.2?
AMD marks 26.10.1 as recommended and 26.10.2 as optional. The optional one fixes crashes that can happen when overlays like Xbox Game Bar open while AMD's Performance Metrics Overlay is on.
What is new for RX 6000 cards in 26.10.1?
AMD adds FSR Upscaling 4.1 support for the RX 6000 series and fixes a stutter in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Does an RX 6600 XT use the same driver?
Yes. AMD's compatibility list names the RX 6900, 6800, 6700, 6600, 6500 and 6400 series together.
Can I go back to an older driver?
Yes, but AMD recommends its Cleanup Utility first so no files from the newer version stay behind.
