Get the driver from TP-Link's own support download page for your exact model, such as Archer T3U or T2U, and pick the hardware version printed on the adapter label. For the Archer T3U V1.60, TP-Link offers one Windows 10 and 11 driver dated 2024-11-28.

Step by step

  1. Read the label on the adapter

Find the model name, such as Archer T3U, and the hardware version, written like Ver: 1.0 or V1.60. Note both before you open any download page.

  2. Open TP-Link's page for that model

Go to the TP-Link support site, search the model and open Download. Choose the hardware version that matches your label. Pages for the T3U, T3U Plus and T3U Nano are separate.

  3. Download the Windows driver

Pick the file marked Windows 10 and 11. Save it, extract the zip and run the setup file. Do this before you plug the adapter in if the page or the box says so.

  4. Plug in and restart

Insert the adapter in a USB port on the PC itself, not a hub. Restart, then pick your network from the Wi-Fi menu.

  5. Check Device Manager if it fails

Under Network adapters, a TP-Link or Realtek or MediaTek name should be listed. A yellow mark means the driver did not install. Remove the device and run the setup file again.

Why the model and version both matter

TP-Link sells many USB Wi-Fi adapters under similar names. Archer T3U, T3U Plus and T3U Nano each have their own driver page on TP-Link’s site. Inside one model, the hardware version can change the chip, and the driver follows the chip. The public USB ID list shows several TP-Link chips: Realtek parts in the T2U, T4U and T3U, and a MediaTek part in the T1U.

On the V1.60 page TP-Link offers one driver, Archer T3U(US)_V1.6_1030.44.0408.2024_Win10Win11, dated 2024-11-28 and 43.49 MB, for Windows 10 and 11. The V1 page shows the same date and size for Windows, plus a macOS file. The file names show how TP-Link ships the driver: an installer, not just an INF file.

When Windows is enough

Some adapters connect with the driver that Windows loads by itself. If your adapter shows up in Network adapters and gets a connection, you can leave it. Download TP-Link’s version when speeds are low, the adapter does not show the 5 GHz band, or the device is listed as unknown. Microsoft advises removing the old driver and reinstalling from the maker if trouble began after an update.

Questions

I do not know my hardware version.

It is printed on the label on the adapter or its box. TP-Link's download page asks you to choose it, and its page notes that Vx.0 groups with Vx.6 and Vx.8, so V1.0 is shown with V1.6 and V1.8.

Why did Windows already install something?

Windows can set up a basic driver for common adapters. TP-Link's driver adds the full function set for that model and is the version the maker tests.

Will the adapter work on Windows 11?

The Archer T3U V1.60 driver on TP-Link's page lists Windows 10 and 11. Other models differ, so read the OS column on the page for your model.

Can I use a different TP-Link driver that looks close?

No. Chip and hardware version decide the driver. A T3U file will not suit a T2U or T4U.
