Get the ELAN touchpad driver
ELAN touchpad drivers usually come from the laptop maker. Enter your exact model on its support page, open the touchpad or input group and install the ELAN package. Windows Update may offer one in Optional updates too. Avoid generic downloads, as ELAN pads are tuned per laptop.

Step by step
See what the touchpad is called
In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices and Human Interface Devices. An ELAN entry confirms the maker. Its Hardware Ids may start with ACPI\ELAN or HID.
Use Windows Update first
Open Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options, Optional updates, and install any input or touchpad driver offered.
Go to the laptop maker's site
Search the model number or serial on the maker's support page. Open the group named Touchpad, Mouse or Input devices, or sometimes Chipset.
Install, then restart
Run the ELAN package and restart. Open Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Touchpad to check gestures.
Try a reinstall
If it fails, uninstall the touchpad in Device Manager, restart and let Windows load its driver again.
Who ELAN is
Elan Microelectronics makes touch controllers, and the public USB ID list shows it under vendor ID 04F3, with fingerprint sensor entries among others. In laptops the touchpad is usually wired inside, so Windows shows it as an HID device, not a USB gadget. That is why you may never see 04F3 in Device Manager.
Why the laptop maker supplies it
Touchpad firmware, scrolling feel and the Fn key action vary by model. Laptop brands package the ELAN driver with those settings and test it against their own BIOS. Downloading a file from a general source can pair the wrong settings with your pad.
Finding the right file
On the maker’s site, drivers are grouped by type. Look for ELAN, Touchpad or Pointing Device. If you see a Chipset or Serial IO package listed, install that first, since many I2C touchpads need it to start.
If gestures are the only problem
Windows 11 has its own gesture options under Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Touchpad. Check those before reinstalling, because a setting turned off can look like a driver fault.
Questions
Does ELAN offer a public driver page?
We did not find a general ELAN download page. The reliable source is the page of the laptop maker.
Why is my ELAN touchpad listed as an HID device?
Many touchpads follow the HID standard, so Windows shows them as HID-compliant devices. The maker driver adds the extras.
Can I use another laptop's ELAN driver?
It is not safe. Makers tune the package per model, and a mismatched file can leave the pad dead or the gestures broken.
The touchpad vanished after an update.
Follow our touchpad not working guide, then reinstall the maker's driver.
