Get the Intel ME driver
Get the Intel Management Engine driver from your laptop or motherboard maker, not from a random site. Intel's own article says the driver depends on the CPU, chipset and motherboard. Intel also lists a general package for Windows 10 and 11 as a fallback. It shows in Device Manager as Intel Management Engine Interface.

The short version
What to install and where it comes from. Every link goes to the manufacturer or Microsoft, never to a copy.
Official files only, nothing bundled
Step by step
Confirm the device
Open Device Manager and expand System devices. Look for Intel Management Engine Interface. If it sits under Other devices with a yellow mark, the driver is missing.
Check the PC maker's support page
Search your exact model or serial number and open the Chipset or Intel section. Makers list the Management Engine Interface driver by name. Intel says this is where to get it.
Try Windows Update
Open Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options, Optional updates. Many PCs receive the driver there.
Use Intel's package only as a fallback
Intel's OEM article says its general driver is for when the maker's version does not work. Read the installation guide in the download first.
Restart and check the entry
Restart, then check that the yellow mark is gone and the entry shows a driver date and version in its Properties.
What the Management Engine Interface does
The Management Engine is a small processor inside Intel chipsets. Windows talks to it through a controller called the Management Engine Interface, or MEI. Intel’s PCI ID entries use names like MEI #1 or HECI. Without a driver, Device Manager shows an unknown PCI device. With one, it appears under System devices with a proper name. Updating the Windows driver does not change the firmware.
Why the PC maker comes first
Intel’s support article says the Windows driver depends on the CPU, chipset and motherboard, and recommends the customised version from the laptop or desktop maker. A second Intel article says the same for OEM systems. The general Intel package is a fallback, and its page asks you to read the installation guide first. On the day we checked, Intel’s own page carried a licence that limits copying to internal evaluation and testing, so treat it as a tool for IT staff rather than a home download.
Common symptoms
The usual symptom is a yellow mark on Intel Management Engine Interface after a clean Windows install. The cure is the same each time: install the maker’s chipset package, then the maker’s ME package, in that order, and restart between them.
Questions
Is the Management Engine safe to leave on?
It is part of the board and needs its driver to talk to Windows. Updating firmware is a separate task done through your PC maker's tools. This page covers only the Windows driver.
Why is Intel's package so large?
Intel's page lists a 1.2 GB zip. It holds more than one component, so use the installation guide that comes with it, and prefer the smaller maker package if one exists.
My Management Engine Interface shows a yellow mark.
Install the maker's chipset or ME package, then restart. If it still shows a code, uninstall the device in Device Manager, restart, and let the maker's driver install again.
Does an AMD PC have this?
No. The Intel Management Engine is part of Intel platforms. AMD boards use different parts, covered by the AMD chipset package.
