CP210x driver for Windows
Get the CP210x driver from Silicon Labs at silabs.com. The CP210x Universal Windows Driver, version 11.6.0 dated 10/2/2026 on the maker page, is the current package for Windows 10 and 11. It is an INF-based driver, so you install it from Device Manager rather than with a setup program.

The short version
What to install and where it comes from. Every link goes to the manufacturer or Microsoft, never to a copy.
Official files only, nothing bundled
Step by step
Match the chip
In Device Manager open the unknown device's Properties, Details, Hardware Ids. A line with VID_10C4 and a PID starting EA means a Silicon Labs bridge.
Open the Silicon Labs page
Go to the CP210x VCP Drivers page on silabs.com and open the Downloads tab. Choose CP210x Universal Windows Driver.
Unzip the package
Extract the ZIP to a folder. The Universal driver has no installer program, so you will see driver files instead.
Install through Device Manager
Right-click the device, choose Update driver, Browse my computer, and point it to the unzipped folder. Or right-click the INF file and choose Install.
Check the new port
Under Ports you should see Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge with a COM number. Use that number in your serial program.
What a CP210x is
CP210x is the name Silicon Labs uses for its family of USB-to-UART bridge chips. They show up in ESP32 and other microcontroller boards, in GPS modules, in radio programming cables and in test equipment. In the public USB ID list, Silicon Labs is vendor 10C4. The product code EA60 is named CP210x UART Bridge, with separate codes for the dual channel CP2105 and the quad channel CP2108.
What Silicon Labs offers today
The Downloads tab of the maker’s page lists the CP210x Universal Windows Driver at version 11.6.0, dated 10/2/2026. Below it are older lines, for example CP210x Windows Drivers 6.7.6 from 9/3/2020, plus a Mac driver. The overview text says the VCP drivers let a host see the chip as a Virtual COM Port. We could not read file sizes on the page, so the table leaves them out.
Installing a driver with no installer
An INF driver feels unfamiliar if you expect a setup wizard. Extract the ZIP, then let Device Manager point at the folder. Windows reads the INF, finds the matching hardware ID and copies the files. Run this with your device plugged in. If Windows warns that it cannot verify the publisher, stop and check that you downloaded from silabs.com. Do not turn off signature enforcement.
Common problems
Two boards can show the same COM number when you swap them. Open the port’s Properties, Port Settings, Advanced and choose a free number. A board that connects and disconnects repeatedly usually has a poor cable or a weak USB port. Try a different cable and a port on the back of the PC.
Questions
Which chips does the Universal driver cover?
It is meant for the CP210x bridge family. Read the notes on the download page to see the exact chips, and compare your hardware ID.
Why is there no setup.exe?
From the 11.x line the package is a standalone INF driver. Use the Device Manager route in the steps above.
Do I need version 6.7.6?
Only if you have an old setup tied to that line. New installs should use the Universal driver.
Does Windows Update have it?
It can. If Ports already lists a Silicon Labs CP210x entry with a COM number, you have nothing to install.
